“The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation is an international nonprofit charity dedicated to planting fruitful trees and plants to alleviate world hunger, combat global warming, strengthen communities, and improve the surrounding air, soil, and water…. Our programs strategically donate orchards where the harvest will best serve communities for generations.” As with many environmental charities, planting trees are central to their cause. But by planting fruit trees only in communities worldwide, they take an environmental project and raise it to the level of social sustainability.

Michael’s was pleased to open their doors on Sunday, October 6th for the 3rd Annual Sustainable Beauty Day. The talented team at Michael’s offered discounted salon and spa services, with 100% of the funds collected going to this incredible cause. Over the last two editions participating salons throughout the US and Canada raised over $87,000 for fruit tree planting projects in communities in Mozambique and Brazil. This year’s efforts are focused on American Indian tribal communities in the southwest to help reignite their agricultural history. The team at Michael’s was able to raise $7,567 this year on Sustainable Beauty Day by combining their charity salon event with selling paper apples, raffles and silent auctions from donations from local businesses and the sale of spa packages.
Michael’s plans to continue their partnership with Davines and The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation for many years to come, and hope you will join in our efforts of fighting world hunger with sustainable solutions.
